Let us come in joy to worship Christ, the King of the Universe

Hello from Father Michael and the Parish Office

Christ is the unifying centre of all reality. He is the answer to all human questions. He is the fulfilment of every desire for happiness, goodness, love and eternity present in the human heart.

Pope Francis, on Twitter

A second Message of Fatima talk will be given by Fr Michael  Lim on Wednesday 7 December at 7.30pm in St John Vianney Church, Waramanga.

The exemption from Sunday Mass attendance ends this week

The obligation to attend Mass will resume as of the First Sunday of Advent (26-27 November). The obligation will not apply if you have serious health concerns or are physically or morally prevented from attending. Nor does it apply if you are feeling unwell, have cold or flu symptoms, or if you believe you pose a risk to the health of others.

Second Rite of Reconciliation is on Wednesday, 14 December, at 6pm

The Second Rite will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Pearce, as part of our preparation for the celebration of  Christmas.

Father Michael's talk on the Message of Fatima is on Monday, 21 November, at 7pm

As the second millennium gave way to the third, Pope John Paul II decided to publish the text of the third part of the secret of Fatima‌. Father Michael will give a talk on this message, and what it means for us, at St John Vianney Church. Please note that this is about the Message, not about Father's recent pilgrimage to Fatima.

The Parish Christmas Party is on Friday, 2 December, at 6.30pm. The cut-off for signing up is Sunday, 27 November

The venue is the St John Vianney school hall. Parishioners are asked to bring a salad or dessert: everything else will be covered. To plan for catering, please put your name on the sign-up sheet in the foyer of either church, identifying how many are coming (please count children over 12 as adults), and what you're bringing.

St Vincent de Paul Society Christmas Gift Tree is at St Jude Church (until 11 December)

The tree is in the foyer of St Jude Church. It has gift tags for age-specific categories, and the Society asks for your generosity in donating gifts for those in need. You don't have to wrap the gift.

The Parish Funeral Booklet Planning Kit is now available

Please pray for our clergy as they gather for their Retreat

Hello from Father Michael and the Parish Office

Let us not be content to admire the beautiful stones of the temple, while failing to recognise God’s true temple, the human person, especially the poor, in whose face, in whose wounds, we encounter Jesus.

Pope Francis, on Twitter.

Liturgy arrangements during the Clergy Retreat

There will be Liturgy of the Word with Eucharist from Tuesday to Friday (inclusive) this week, led by Deacon Vince Barclay. The Liturgies will be held at the usual weekday Mass times.

Sunday 16 October 2022

We welcome Father Michael back from pilgrimage this week, and pray to the Lord for his safe return.

May we never grow weary of bearing witness to the newness of Jesus, to the newness that is Jesus! Faith is not a lovely exhibit of artefacts from the past, but an ever-present event, an encounter with Christ that takes place in the here and now of our lives!

Pope Francis, on Twitter.

Hello from Father Michael and the Parish Office.

And apologies for the issues which have kept us off the air for a few weeks.

Father Michael returns!

Father Michael will celebrate Mass starting on Thursday, 20 October.

We thank Father Bernie Patterson for shepherding us during Father Michael's absence and wish him God's blessing and safe travels as he defies retirement and continues to bring the Word to the parishes of the Archdiocese. We also thank Deacon Vince and the acolytes who have conducted liturgies during this time.

No Children's Liturgy on Sunday, 23 October

Normal arrangements will resume after this weekend.

Please pray for Father Michael and his family

Hello from Father Michael and the Parish Office.

Father Michael will be away from Tuesday, 23 August. He will be in Singapore on family matters. There will be Communion Services only  at the Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday morning Masses from Tuesday 23 August until the first week of September on a date yet to be confirmed. There will be regular Masses on the weekend as well as the regular confession times  before all Masses except for Sunday morning 9am Mass at St John Vianney Church.

Father Michael will then be on pilgrimage from 19 September for four weeks. He will be visiting Lourdes and Fatima as part of his trip. Parishioners who would like Father to take a prayer intention with him are welcome to leave it in the sacristy before or after a Communion Service or Mass, or in the locked mailbox at the end of the driveway at the Presbytery. Please place the request in a sealed envelope; do not put any name other identifier on the outside of the envelope; and please do not put money in the envelope.

Parish Confirmation enrolments have closed. Participants are reminded that the final 9am Sunday Masses at St John Vianney Church are this weekend and 28 August, followed by group sessions. If you are unable to attend either Mass, there will be substitute group sessions at St John Vianney Church at 5.30pm on Tuesday 23 August and Tuesday 30 August. There will be a final reflection evening for all participants and their parents on Wednesday 31 August. Confirmation will be at St John Vianney Church at 6pm on Tuesday 6 September.

Funeral Service planning. Our project to help parishioners to design their funeral service booklets is making good progress. A number of parishioners are currently testing the prototype information package, and I thank them for their help. The Parish Office will keep you informed of any developments while I am away - Father Michael.

God's Word 2023 is now available to order. You can make your payment of $18 through the Qkr! app (preferred) or by putting the money in an envelope marked "God's Word" (with your name and the church you'd like to collect it from) and putting the envelope in either collection at Mass. The deadline for orders is 27 September.

Father Michael asks you to pray for these special intentions:

For our Confirmation candidates and their families.

For Claire Corson and her family, as Claire begins her novitiate with the Dominican Sisters in Nashville.

For Sister Janina and the mother of Sister Ursula, of the the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (the founding teaching order at St Jude's School), following the bus accident that claimed their lives on their way to Medjugorje.

Thursday 7 July 2022

On Seafarers' Sunday (and all year), remember and pray for seafarers, their loved ones, and everyone connected with maritime work

Hello from Father Michael and the Parish Team.

During difficult moments, let us not close in on ourselves, shutting Jesus out. Let us seek Jesus, return to him, to his forgiveness, to those wounds that have healed us. In this way, we too will become capable of compassion, of approaching the wounds of others.

Pope Francis, on Twitter

The Stella Maris ministry

Stella Maris is the maritime ministry of the Catholic Church. Its chaplains and managers give help and pastoral care to seafarers, fishers and other maritime workers across Australia. In these times when maritime work is more hazardous, stressed and oppressed than ever, agencies like Stella Maris give back for all the benefits we have received in our lifestyle from international sea trade.

For more information, or to support Stella Maris, please visit:

Our 2022-23 Planned Giving Scheme

Supporting our Parish and our Church is an act of generous discipleship. It isn't just paying for a service, as if God were something to be priced and bought in the marketplace: it's a commitment to being God's followers and honouring Him by what we choose to share.

The Parish and the Archdiocese rely on our support for their existence. A regular and reliable income underpins everything from having priests and church buildings to welfare programs (such as Stella Maris) and evangelisation. Everything about the Archdiocese depends on your help.

If you're already part of our Planned Giving, thank you. If you aren't, please consider joining your fellow parishioners in keeping our mission alive and active. To join the program, please contact the Parish Office.

Hello from Father Michael and the Parish Team.

In the Body and Blood of Christ, we find his presence, his life given for each of us. He not only gives us help to go forward, but he gives us himself: he enters into our affairs, he visits us when we are lonely, giving us back a sense of enthusiasm.

Pope Francis (on Twitter)

LET US KEEP PRAYING FOR PEACE IN UKRAINE AND THE WORLD

Monday 25 April 2022

We remember and pray for all who have served in Australia's defence forces.

Hello from Father Michael and the Parish team.

There are difficult times when life seems to belie faith. It's precisely then that we rediscover the Lord's heart. In those situations, Jesus doesn't perform earth-shattering miracles, but instead offers us heartwarming signs of mercy. He comforts us by offering us his wounds.

Pope Francis, on Twitter.
